Quick answers about setting up rates, pricing, and filters in Rule Ship.
It lets you build custom shipping rates that appear at checkout, priced and shown based on rules you define — cart weight, cart total, destination, and product details — without writing any code.
No. Rates you create in Rule Ship are offered alongside your existing shipping profiles as additional carrier-calculated options at checkout.
No theme changes are required. Rates are delivered directly to Shopify checkout as shipping options.
From the Home screen, click “New Shipping Rate,” then fill in Public Details, Advanced Settings, Price, and Limits/Filters. See the Documentation page for a full walkthrough.
The rate simply isn't offered. If none of your rates match, the customer only sees whatever other shipping options your store provides.
Yes. Add as many filters as you need with “Add filter.” A rate is only offered when every filter on it matches — filters are combined with AND.
Rate Name, Rate Description, Code, and a Base Price above 0 are required, along with at least one complete filter (Field, Verb, and Value all set). The Code must also be unique across your rates.
Final price starts at Base Price. If the cart weight exceeds “Starting after (grams),” a per-kilogram surcharge is added for the extra weight. If the cart total exceeds “Starting after (amount),” a per-currency-unit surcharge is added for the extra amount.
Yes — set Base Price to 0 and leave the surcharge fields at 0. Pair it with limits or filters to control when it's offered.
Surcharges only apply to the portion of weight or price past the “Starting after” threshold, not the whole cart. Double-check the threshold values on the rate.
Before discounts. Shopify does not pass discount information to shipping rate apps, so Minimum/Maximum Price are evaluated against the pre-discount cart total.
Yes. Use the Include or Exclude verb with a comma-separated list of values, for example CA,US,UK.
No. Equals, Not Equal, Starts with, Ends with, Include, and Exclude are all case-insensitive.
Yes — choose the Regular Expression verb and enter a pattern, for example ^V0C.* to match postal codes starting with V0C.
Destination fields (Customer Name, Address, City, Province, Country, Zip, Company) match once against the shipping address. Product fields (Product Name, SKU, Vendor, Tag, Type, Collection) match if any item in the cart satisfies the condition.
Use the “Country 2-letter code” field with the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 code, such as US, CA, or GB.
Yes — click “Edit” on the rate row from the Home screen. It opens the same form used to create a rate, pre-filled with its current Public Details, Advanced Settings, Price, and Limits/Filters, so you can update and save your changes.
Yes — use the Disable action on the rate row. Disabled rates are kept but never offered at checkout until re-enabled.
The rate is permanently removed and will no longer be evaluated at checkout. This can't be undone.
Use the search field on the Home screen to filter rates by name.
